Tiddlywinks Pre-School

About Tiddlywinks

We're a nursery for two- to four-year-olds, based on the site of Leyland Methodist Infant School, and we welcome children from Leyland and the surrounding area. Since September 2026, we've been part of Epworth Education Trust, the Methodist multi-academy trust that includes Leyland Methodist Infant and Junior Schools.

We're registered with and inspected by Ofsted, and were rated Good at our most recent inspection in September 2025. We follow the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage. We're a member of the Early Years Alliance, a national charity committed to quality in early years education. We also hold the Lancashire Quality Award, which recognises quality across all areas of our provision.

Our manager, Miss Gillian Tyrer, runs Tiddlywinks day-to-day, supported by qualified early years staff. We welcome help from volunteers and parents and offer placements for students on relevant courses.

Opening times and admissions

We work closely with Leyland Methodist Schools and follow the same term time holiday pattern. We accept children in September, January and April and are open Monday to Friday from 9.00am till 3.00pm.

Mission Statement

At Tiddlywinks we believe that young children learn best in full partnership with their carers and the community and in a structured, non-threatening environment which is interesting, exciting and stimulating. Staff are responsive to the individual needs of each child and committed to helping children to learn through exploration and first hand, well-structured play experiences. Children are encouraged to become independent in skills, their thinking and in the choices they make.

We intend that children will leave Tiddlywinks confident, successful learners, happy in who they are and eager to continue their learning as they grow and move on, having a sensitivity and concern for the needs of those around them and the wider world.
