Intent
At Leyland Methodist Schools, we are committed to providing a literacy-rich and diverse curriculum that is broad, balanced, and engaging. Our Christian values are embedded throughout our curriculum, shaping all aspects of school life and ensuring that every child is inspired, motivated and supported to build resilience both inside and outside the classroom.
Our curriculum is designed to deepen knowledge and understanding while developing key skills for lifelong learning. It is carefully sequenced, building on prior knowledge and ensuring children learn more and remember more through meaningful and memorable experiences.
In alignment with the Epworth Infinite Eight Strategy, our curriculum extends beyond traditional learning to offer rich, holistic experiences that nurture personal growth, resilience and well-being. These eight core opportunities encourage pupils to embrace lifelong learning, explore the world around them, and develop a strong sense of identity, belonging and purpose.
Through the Infinite Eight Strategy, these principles are embedded in eight key experiences that every child at Leyland Methodist Schools will encounter:
Implementation
At Leyland Methodist Schools, we deliver an inclusive and experiential curriculum that meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and the National Curriculum while embedding the Infinite Eight Strategy to enhance personal development.
In EYFS, our curriculum follows the Development Matters framework while incorporating children’s interests and offering early exposure to Infinite Eight experiences such as nature-based learning, storytelling and creative exploration.
From the earliest stages, we prioritise reading to ensure children become fluent, confident and passionate readers. We follow Little Wandle Letters and Sounds, a structured synthetic phonics programme that provides daily, bespoke phonics sessions. This approach ensures that all children can access the full curriculum, reach their potential, and develop a lifelong love of reading.
Across all subjects, we provide opportunities for children to strengthen their literacy, numeracy, and reasoning skills while actively participating in experiential learning. Whether through enterprise projects, museum and theatre visits, environmental initiatives or cultural celebrations, the Infinite Eight Strategy ensures that children develop knowledge, skills, and character in a meaningful and memorable way.
Our curriculum supports long-term memory retention by sequencing learning experiences, revisiting key concepts, and integrating hands-on opportunities that bring learning to life. Assessments are conducted using formative and summative approaches to ensure progress and engagement across all subjects.
To enrich learning, we provide inspirational visitors, themed days and educational visits, ensuring that children experience the world beyond the classroom. A wide range of extra-curricular clubs and sports competitions further enhance learning, promoting teamwork, resilience and personal development.
Additionally, our curriculum nurtures children's spiritual, moral, social, and cultural growth, ensuring they develop into responsible citizens who uphold British Values in their daily lives.
Impact
Our curriculum, enriched by the Infinite Eight Strategy, ensures that children leave Leyland Methodist Schools as knowledgeable, skilled and independent learners who are prepared for the future.
By embedding broad and deep learning experiences, every child is supported to succeed, regardless of background, ability, or circumstance. Our approach equips children with confidence, resilience, and curiosity, ensuring they are ready to navigate future education and life beyond school.
Through participation in Infinite Eight experiences, children develop a love for learning, a respect for diverse perspectives, and a sense of responsibility toward others. This holistic approach prepares them for a successful and fulfilling life, grounded in strong values and a lifelong pursuit of knowledge and growth.
