Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) at Leyland Methodist Schools

At Leyland Methodist Schools, we are committed to ensuring that every child receives the support they need to achieve their full potential. The Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is additional funding allocated to schools in England to support disadvantaged pupils and close the attainment gap between them and their peers.

What is the Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium is funding given to schools by the government to improve educational outcomes for pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds. It is allocated based on the number of pupils who meet the following criteria:

  • Free School Meals (FSM) – Children who have been eligible for FSM at any point in the last six years.
  • Looked After Children (LAC) – Children who are in care or have been adopted from care.
  • Children from Service Families – Pupils with parents in the armed forces receive additional support.

How We Use Pupil Premium Funding

At Leyland Methodist Schools, we use the Pupil Premium Grant to provide a range of academic and pastoral support to ensure that all children can thrive. Our key areas of focus include:

  • High-quality teaching – Investment in staff training and resources to enhance classroom learning.
  • Targeted academic support – One-to-one and small group interventions to boost attainment in core subjects.
  • Pastoral care and well-being – Access to emotional and social support, including counselling and mentoring.
  • Enrichment opportunities – Funding for extracurricular activities, trips, and experiences to broaden pupils’ horizons.

Pupil Premium Strategy Statement

As part of our statutory duty, we publish an annual Pupil Premium Strategy Statement, outlining how we plan to spend the funding and the impact of previous allocations. Our strategy includes:

  1. A summary of the barriers to learning for disadvantaged pupils at our school.
  2. Our key objectives for the use of Pupil Premium funding.
  3. A breakdown of funding allocation and how it is being spent.
  4. The impact of previous Pupil Premium funding, demonstrating progress made by disadvantaged pupils.

You can read our latest Pupil Premium Strategy Statement below.

Eligibility for Free School Meals

If you think your child may be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM), please contact the school office or visit Gov.uk to apply. Even if your child does not wish to have school meals, registering can help ensure the school receives vital additional funding to support their education.

Monitoring and Review

We regularly review the impact of our Pupil Premium spending to ensure it effectively supports our pupils. Our Pupil Premium lead and senior leadership team monitor progress and adapt our strategy accordingly.

Our Pupil Premium funding and strategy are reviewed annually, and a report is shared with the Governing Body.
